چکیده

We study diffractive photoproduction of J/ψ by taking the charm quark as a heavy quark. A description of nonperturbative effect related to J/ψ can be made by using NRQCD. In the forward region of the kinematics, the interaction between the cc̄-pair and the initial hadron is due to exchange of soft gluons. The effect of the exchange can be studied by using the expansion in the inverse of the quark mass mc. At the leading order we find that the nonperturbative effect related to the initial hadron is represented by a matrix element of field strength operators, which are separated in the moving direction of J/ψ in the space-time. The S-matrix element is then obtained without using perturbative QCD and the results are not based on any model. Corrections to the results can be systematically added. Keeping the dominant contribution of the S-matrix element in the large energy limit we find that the imaginary part of the S-matrix element is related to the gluon distribution for x → 0 with a reasonable assumption, the real part can be obtained with another approximation or with dispersion relation. Our approach is different than previous approaches and also our results are different than those in these approaches. The differences are discussed in detail. A comparison with experiment is also made and a qualitative agreement is found. PACS numbers: 12.38.-t, 12.39.Hg, 13.60.-r, 13.60.Le

Diffractive J/ψ photoproduction as a probe of the gluon density

We use perturbative QCD, beyond the leading lnQ2 approximation, to show how measurements of diffractive J/ψ production at HERA can provide a sensitive probe of the gluon density of the proton at small values of Bjorken x. We estimate both the effect of the relativistic motion of the c and c within the J/ψ and of the rescattering of the cc quark pair on the proton. We find that the available dat...

Heavy Quarkonium Photoproduction at HERA and Charm Content of the Photon

A study of the J/ψ-meson photoproduction at large transverse momentum at HERA energies via the charm quark excitation in the photon is presented. Based on perturbative QCD, nonrelativistic quark model and photon structure function formalism, our calculation demonstrates that the charm content of the photon may be very important for the J/ψ photoproduction at the large transverse momentum. It is...

Ratio of Photoproduction Rates of J/ψ and ψ(2S)

There are different approaches for diffractive photoproduction of charmonia. Recently, a new approach is proposed, in which charm quarks are taken as heavy quarks and the nonperturbative effect related to charmonia can be handled with nonrelativistic QCD. The interaction between the cc̄ pair and the initial hadron is through exchange of soft gluons. The exchange of soft gluons can be studied wit...

Constraints on gluon evolution at small x 1

The BFKL and the unified angular-ordered equations are solved to determine the gluon distribution at small x. The impact of kinematic constraints is investigated. Predictions are made for observables sensitive to the gluon at small x. In particular comparison is made with measurements at the HERA electron-proton collider of the proton structure function F 2 (x, Q 2) as a function of ln Q 2 , th...

Diffractive Photoproduction of Heavy Vector Mesons

Diffractive vector meson production is described on the one hand within the phenomenological framework based on Regge theory, and on the other hand by perturbative QCD calculations. Light vector mesons in the photoproduction regime (where no hard scale is present) agree well with non-perturbative Regge based descriptions. Perturbative effects are measured in the presence of a hard scale for lig...
